Introduction
Misbah and Umar Syal are a lovely couple with a young family. They both work from home and have spent years renovating the inside of their home to perfection and now have decided to tackle the outside areas although not in bad shape the garden didn’t flow and certainly needed intervention.
We were one of four contractors invited to tender for this project, where we had the advantage over our competitors is we had all the skills and experience under one roof, certainly Misbah was delighted with our professional approach and willing to see her vision and create it on plan and a finished project. The project was overseen by David Barnes and Gavin daily and also got stuck in on the construction side when needed.
The Project
The project was in Camberly, I went to look at the project back in May 2023 Misbah was very clear on what she wanted. There were initial sketch drawings provided by the client for what was required, these showed a new patio layout, a seating area with a bespoke built pergola and an outdoor kitchen. The project was fairly challenging due to the shape of the garden, nothing was straight! After many hours of planning and perfecting the drawings carried out in-house at AAOL we agreed on the right design and once the costings were finally agreed we started on site.
The existing block paving was taken up and replaced with a porcelain slab patio expertly cut and shaped to fit in with the proposed design and to join the side and rear garden areas together. This created alternative living spaces for the family to use. New raised planters were formed to accommodate some of the existing established shrubs and trees. The new grass areas were turfed and the existing worn grass was seeded.
The next task was to build a pergola in timber to fit in the corner of the garden this was built by hand on-site and turned out better than the clients ever expected.
The Outdoor Kitchen
The outdoor kitchen was formed and as this was the main focal point and outdoor social area it had to be special.

The wish list was a gas BBQ, a gas side burner, a Kamado Joe charcoal BBQ, and a wood-fired Pizza oven. We provided all the appliances apart from the pizza oven, this was to be a gift from a family member. (Missing from photos) We needed to incorporate seating, storage and a sink. Again the completed kitchen far exceeded the client’s expectations. All in all both Misbah and Umar were so delighted with our work that they gave us a fantastic review on Google and provided pictures taken by themselves.
